Child-focused solutions

for family changes

No matter the family, change and transition is certain. No matter how challenging your family transition, your children will always be tethered to you. It’s hard to imagine, but how parents navigate change is the most important factor in children’s mental health and development. So, navigating conflict in a healthy way is fundamental to your children’s success.

Who We Are

The D.C. Children’s Institute (DCCI) is a 501(C)(3), formed in 2022, serving as a mental health and advocacy resource for children who are victimized by the flaws of the family court system in the greater Washington, D.C. area.

We seek to provide child-centered interventions for families, helping them navigate the emotional and logistical challenges of family transitions through the court system.  DCCI places particular care on emphasizing the mental health and well-being of children by, first and foremost, advocating for children’s mental, physical, and emotional health throughout the chaos of the court system.

We work alongside esteemed judges, attorneys, and court administrators to develop sustainable systems that maintain a high standard of advocacy for children’s rights.

DCCI is the brainchild of the Eisen Blackstone Group, an established mental health practice that specializes in helping families navigate the emotional and logistical challenges of family transitions.

The primary objective is to provide D.C., Maryland, and Virginia families, and the courts, with solutions-based alternatives to the judicial system. DCCI provides mediation, coaching, counseling, workshops, support groups and more to parents and professionals involved in any type of family reorganization. The Institute provides services on a sliding fee scale, including pro-bono, to address the growing numbers of parents with children who do not have the financial capacity to seek mental health services around this pervasive issue.

No emotion is forever.  But your children are.

Mission

The mission of the D.C. Children’s Institute (DCCI) is to serve as a dedicated mental health resource for children and families entangled in the complexities of the family court system. DCCI aims to provide child-centered interventions that assist families in navigating the emotional and logistical challenges associated with divorce and family transitions. At its core, DCCI is an advocate for children’s rights, prioritizing their well-being amid the adversities of high-conflict custody proceedings. The Institute is committed to offering services on a sliding fee scale, ensuring accessibility to families, including those with limited financial means.

Vision

DCCI envisions a future where children’s needs take precedence in family court matters, emphasizing mental health development and minimizing the adverse impacts of litigation on children. Through education, mediation, coaching, counseling, and various support services, DCCI aims to create a more child-centric and supportive environment during family reorganization.

Our Work

The primary objective is to provide D.C., Maryland, and Virginia families, and the courts, with solutions-based alternatives to the judicial system. Our child-centered programming delivers this mission through a three-pronged approach:

  • Judicial training, aimed to help judges and family court professionals understand the intricacies of high-conflict family dynamics and reevaluate the impact of abuse.
  • High-conflict co-parenting resources designed to educate and support adults in high-conflict relationships become more child-focused and better prepared for possible family court appearances.
  • Advocacy and thought leadership developed to help mental health and family court professionals, as well as parents, guardians and caregivers, understand the critical needs of children involved in high-conflict co-parenting relationships.

DCCI will bring children’s mental health education to the family court system. The Institute will provide services on a sliding fee scale, including pro-bono, to address the growing numbers of parents with children who do not have the financial capacity to seek mental health services around this pervasive issue. At its core, DCCI is an advocate for children’s rights, prioritizing their well-being amid the adversities of high-conflict custody proceedings.
